Utexo to launch USDT on Bitcoin via RGB protocol, Lightning support planned for 2027

Utexo plans to reintroduce Tether's USDT stablecoin to Bitcoin network via the RGB protocol, with public launch scheduled for November 28. The protocol keeps transaction data off-chain while anchoring cryptographic commitments to Bitcoin, enabling private and fast transfers. Lightning Network integration is planned for Q1 2027. The move comes as $300 billion of stablecoin supply circulates on Ethereum and Tron, raising questions about Bitcoin's ability to compete without smart contract functionality.
