AI-generated deepfake of Mia Goth on Instagram spreads despite verification

An AI-generated image falsely depicting actress Mia Goth wearing a T-shirt with the message "MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN" surfaced on an Instagram account, @miagoth_, which held a blue verification checkmark and garnered nearly 500,000 likes. Goth's representative stated the image was counterfeit and that the fan account met Instagram's criteria for a blue check, which is purchasable. This deepfake subsequently influenced Google search results, leading to an AI-generated overview claiming Goth was targeting Shia LaBeouf following their divorce filing. Instagram later removed the impersonating account.
