Texas Brothers Sentenced to 15 Years Each for $8 Million Crypto Kidnapping

Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, both from Waller, Texas, were sentenced to 180 and 186 months in federal prison for a September 2025 home‑invasion robbery in Grant, Minnesota. They broke into the family’s house, zip‑tied the occupants, held them at gunpoint for over nine hours, and forced the father to transfer more than $8 million in cryptocurrency. After the victim’s son called 911, the brothers fled but were later arrested near Houston. The case exemplifies a “wrench attack,” where criminals use physical violence rather than hacking to seize crypto. Chainalysis reported 46 such violent incidents in the first half of 2026, with over $30 million stolen, indicating a rise in this crime type as crypto values climb.
