Trump offers $1 million reward for voter fraud convictions as evidence shows fraud is extremely rare
Former President Donald Trump has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the conviction of voter fraud cases, alleging the practice is "rampant" ahead of the November midterms. However, studies and databases suggest actual instances of postal voting fraud and non-citizen voting are exceptionally rare. An analysis by the Brookings Institution found an average of only about four fraud cases per 10 million mail-in ballots in recent elections. Over the last 20 years, the Heritage Foundation database, which records convictions for electoral fraud, has tallied only 325 cases involving the fraudulent use of postal ballots. A 2020 study by the American Statistical Association found no evidence that voting by mail overall increases the risk of voter fraud.
