ChatGPT Desktop App Now Runs on Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US)
The ChatGPT desktop application has been made available on Amazon Bedrock within the AWS GovCloud (US) region, enabling users to access OpenAI’s frontier GPT models through two distinct components: the Work component for complex, multi‑step tasks and the Codex component for code‑centric activities such as development, testing, and pull‑request review. The setup routes model inference through the Amazon Bedrock Mantle endpoint in us‑gov‑west‑1, allowing organizations to enforce AWS GovCloud (US) identities, IAM policies, and existing network controls. Users can interact with the service via the desktop app, Codex CLI, or IDE integrations (Visual Studio Code, JetBrains, Xcode). In this configuration, data residency is maintained within the selected Bedrock region, and a zero‑data‑retention (ZDR) mode can be enabled so that prompts and responses are never written to durable storage or shared with model providers. Billing is per‑token with no seat licenses or per‑developer commitments. The deployment is designed for agencies with stringent security and privacy requirements, providing a controlled environment that can be tested and documented before broader adoption.
