Ethereum researcher Justin Drake warns AI could break ECDSA cryptography

Ethereum researcher Justin Drake called for 'bunker mode' planning, suggesting ECDSA might break in months, not years, due to AI accelerating the discovery of mathematical attacks using classical computing. Drake argues elliptic curves are more vulnerable than hash functions because of their mathematical structure. However, cryptography professor Matthew Green said, “I think we might lose public key cryptography,” while Coinbase's Yehuda Lindell stated there is “no evidence whatsoever” that the underlying mathematical assumptions of elliptic curve cryptography have been weakened, and Bitcoin analyst Lucien Bourdon noted no credible published advances against ECDSA math.
