IWF to hold 2030 Weightlifting World Championships in Moscow, first Olympic federation event in Russia since Ukraine invasion

The International Weightlifting Federation announced that Moscow will host the 2030 World Weightlifting Championships, marking the first time an Olympic federation has staged a global event in Russia since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The decision follows the International Olympic Committee's provisional lifting of a suspension on the Russian Olympic Committee in July, though the IOC maintains it will not organise events in Russia or invite Russian officials. Five Ukrainian athletes are scheduled to compete at the 2026 IWF World Championships in Ningbo, China.
