Burnham Calls for Greater Devolution of Employment and Reindustrialisation Powers to Scotland and Wales

Prime Minister Rishi Burnham urged the Scottish and Welsh governments to work jointly with Westminster on a model of deeper devolution, particularly in areas such as employment support for young people and innovation funding for reindustrialisation. At the summit in Glasgow, Burnham said the UK government would review arrangements for further devolution of employment support in both nations, while also encouraging the sharing of responsibilities with local authorities across England. The meeting highlighted the need for more regional control to drive economic growth, higher wages, better jobs and business opportunities, and to address the high number of young people out of work in the UK.
