Interpol Recovers Over $105M in African Cybercrime Sweep Shutting Illegal Crypto Mines

Interpol-coordinated Operation Serengeti III, involving 21 countries, arrested 1,462 suspects, disrupted 10,909 malicious networks, and recovered over $105 million in illicit funds between June 29 and August 31, 2026. The operation identified 65,929 victims linked to over $385 million in losses. Specific actions included shutting two illegal crypto mining centers in Angola, seizing over 2,000 mining devices, and tracing over $2.4 million in suspected investment fraud proceeds laundered through crypto transactions in Nigeria.
