Nothing CEO Carl Pei teases screen-free AI device set to launch next month
Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced on X that the company will launch its first AI-native device in December, calling it a screen-free tool that 'couldn't have been an app.' Pei said the product ships next month and is built with the personality and care associated with Nothing devices. The teaser arrives just over a year after Pei announced plans for AI-native devices and an AI operating system, and accompanies an image showing NOTHING(R) above an ambiguous black rounded corner. Nothing is entering a category that already includes screen-free AI gadgets such as the Humane AI pin, Friend, and AI stuffed animals, while OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI smart speaker with Jony Ive. Pei said the industry is hunting for an AI 'iPhone moment' in products like pendants, pins, glasses, and companions, and called the search for the iPhone of AI a dead end. Earlier rumors suggested Nothing may release two pairs of AI smart glasses, including one without cameras, as part of a shift to AI accessories.
