Starknet Community Votes to Research Independent Post-Quantum Layer-1 Blockchain

In a seven-day non-binding governance vote drawing about 3,200 votes, 93.52% of voting power supported research into Starknet becoming an independent, post-quantum Layer-1 blockchain. This outcome allows StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation to begin research, with a draft whitepaper expected in November; however, the actual shift requires a separate, binding vote, and Starknet will continue operating as an Ethereum layer-2 network for now. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson said they are targeting quantum resistance by 2027, citing concerns that Ethereum's 2029 quantum-safe target is too late.
