NESO Assures UK Electricity Supply Will Remain Secure This Winter Despite Engineer Concerns

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) stated that the UK's electricity system is prepared and resilient for the coming winter, expecting secure supplies although warning of potential "tight days" requiring notices to power producers for additional generation. This assurance follows an independent investigation by Eversheds Sutherland which found high levels of stress among engineers due to the management difficulty of intermittent renewables compared to gas-fired generation, and noted a "significant disconnect" between control room staff and NESO's senior leadership. National Gas also expects sufficient supply but forecasts increased gas use during peak demand.
