FBI arrests former OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan for planting recording device in top-secret meeting room

The FBI arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi engineer who was a permanent US legal resident since 2020 and worked as an OpenAI engineer for over a year, for planting a recording device in a restricted executive conference room at OpenAI. The device was allegedly planted on September 28 and discovered by OpenAI on September 30; the FBI alleges Alfozan sought to spy on OpenAI and risk leaking trade secrets, threatening national security. CCTV footage installed by OpenAI on October 5 allegedly showed Alfozan attempting to retrieve the device that same day.
