Lula defeats Bolsonaro in Brazil election, says country will not be US backyard

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won Brazil's presidency, declaring in his victory speech that "Brazil will not accept being anyone's backyard" aimed at Washington. Despite initial hostility, including Trump-imposed tariffs, the two leaders later met at the White House. Lula's victory shifts Latin America's political landscape, challenging the right-wing surge across the region and Trump's strategy of using allies to establish US dominance.
