Rivian plans to integrate third-party AI agents like Anthropic's into its vehicles

Rivian has rolled out an in-car AI assistant allowing voice interaction with its electric vehicles. CEO RJ Scaringe stated that future Rivian cars will support AI agents from other companies, such as Anthropic, at the company's AI & Autonomy Day in December. Rivian uses a proprietary in-house agentic framework to route commands to local or cloud models, and the current agent can access external apps like Google Calendar as of May of this year. However, vehicle-level safety controls will not be handed to an agent.
