UK to invest 100 million pounds in world-first AI Biosecurity Lab

The UK government will commit 100 million pounds to establish a national AI Biosecurity Lab, a "world first" institute to strengthen defences against emerging biological threats. The lab will be supported by leading AI firms OpenAI and Anthropic, which are providing 200 million pounds worth of AI model credits. An additional 120 million pounds will go to the AI Security Institute, alongside 60 million for a National Cyber Shield and 70 million for a National Exposure and Real-Time Vulnerability Centre to detect cyber vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure.
