Satlyt software to launch on SpaceX rocket alongside Google's space data center prototype
Rama Afullo co-founded Satlyt, a company focused on building software for satellites to share large computing jobs in space, after being told 'no' by both Google and SpaceX regarding his vision for orbital data centers. Satlyt recently raised an $8 million seed round, and its software is set to launch on a SpaceX rocket on Thursday, alongside the first prototype for Google's Project Suncatcher. Satlyt aims to provide an open ecosystem software solution, similar to how VMware and Snowflake operate, rather than building its own spacecraft. The software has already demonstrated efficiency gains, such as cutting transmission size by over 60% when deploying Google DeepMind’s Gemma AI model onboard a spacecraft operated by Momentus. The upcoming mission involves customers NASA, Stellerian, and TakeMe2Space, testing cloud computing protocols, image processing, and hardware hosting.
