Chinese Mathematicians Form Alliance to Advance AI in Math Amid Western Skepticism

The Yau Laboratory Alliance for Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence, uniting eight institutions and aiming for over 1,000 researchers, was launched in Beijing by Fields Medal winner Shing-Tung Yau and other leading Chinese mathematicians to push AI into math research. In contrast, 25 Fields Medal winners in the West, including Terence Tao and Peter Scholze, worry that AI-generated proofs erode mathematical understanding, leading some to call for a boycott of such proofs.
