Finnish Court Jails Russian Captain and Azerbaijani Crew Member for Baltic Sea Cable Sabotage

A Finnish court sentenced the Russian captain and an Azerbaijani crew member of the cargo ship Fitburg to 3 years 6 months and 2 years 10 months in prison for intentionally dragging an anchor along the seabed for about 130 km, damaging two subsea telecom cables in the Gulf of Finland. The court also ordered them to pay around €1.9 million in damages. The captain plans to appeal.
