Record high voter turnout reported in Serbia's snap election

Early reports from Serbia's parliamentary election indicate a record high voter turnout, with 46% of voters having cast their ballots by 14:00 local time, nearly a million more than the comparable figure in the December 2023 election. The high turnout is seen as crucial for the opposition Student List party, which aims to challenge the ruling Serbian Progressive Party led by Aleksandar Vučić. Voting took place against a backdrop of student protests triggered by a 2024 train station collapse that killed 16 people.
