Democrats win US midterms, ending Republican majorities in both houses of Congress

US midterm voters backed Democrats and ended Republican majorities in both houses of Congress after Donald Trump asked them to pretend he was on the ballot. The outcome leaves open how much executive power the president, in his second term, will still wield in his final two years, particularly on the world stage, and whether the United States will return to traditional allies or side with Russia and China over Europe and Ukraine. Democrats are considering what legislation to pass to keep new voters on board for the 2028 presidential election. The day after the midterms, neither party has a clear leader for the next presidential election cycle.
