Iran's IRGC Navy says four tankers catch fire in Strait of Hormuz
Iran's Revolutionary Guards Navy reported on Friday that four oil tankers caught fire and exploded in the Strait of Hormuz while attempting to use unauthorized routes, with one vessel carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil hitting a mine and suffering a powerful explosion. Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations agency reported a crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile during an outbound transit, causing a fire on board; the crew were reported safe with no reported environmental impact. The incidents occurred amid heightened tensions in the strategic waterway, through which around one-fifth of global oil supplies pass, following US-Israeli strikes on Iran at the end of February.
