Laika CEO Travis Knight says generative AI is antithetical to studio's artistic values

Travis Knight, director of Laika's ambitious five-year stop-motion film Wildwood, stated that generative AI is "antithetical to everything that we are at this studio." Knight emphasized that while Laika uses advanced technical tools like diaphragms and advanced musculature in its 230+ puppets, these tools remain in the hands of artists. He argues that AI output lacks humanity, soul, and spirit, asserting that only a person can authentically tell human stories about loss or grief.
