Coinbase urges industry-wide quantum-resistant Bitcoin signature standards

Coinbase has called for industry-wide preparation of Bitcoin against quantum computing threats, proposing a new signature scheme SHRINCS to balance security with wallet recovery. The scheme introduces a trade-off: compact signatures require strict tracking of used signing slots, while a stateless fallback of 5,777 bytes preserves security when state is lost. This design aims to prevent network clogging from 10x larger data while maintaining signing capabilities after wallet backups or server failures.
