ECB President Christine Lagarde Announces Resignation Effective 7 February 2027

On 29 October 2026, Christine Lagarde informed the ECB Governing Council and European Council President António Costa that she will step down as ECB President on 7 February 2027. Her successor will be nominated and appointed by the European Council in accordance with Article 283 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.
