Sam Altman defends RAM comments after renaming himself 'Ram Altman' on X
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman changed his name on X to “Ram Altman” and said people should put as much RAM as they want in their computers, adding that he has long argued for ramping up memory production. The posts came after an interview on the Cheeky Pint podcast, where Altman said it is terrible for the world’s limited DRAM supply to sit in personal computers and be used only five percent of the time. AI data centers have been snapping up the world’s RAM supply, driving shortages that lead to tech price hikes and make it hard for many people to obtain large amounts of memory. Intel expects the shortage to last through at least next year, and SK Hynix predicted it could drag on until 2030.
