Walmart launches Agent Gateway to support AI agent commerce while Amazon blocks them

Walmart introduced its Agent Gateway, an MCP server, to enable approved AI agents to search Walmart's online inventory and make purchases on behalf of users, differentiating it from competitors like Amazon which has begun blocking AI agents. The retailer also announced Agent Profiles, rolling out next month, allowing customers to authorize each AI agent with a dedicated profile, set spending limits, and view agent purchases separately, ensuring customer control without sharing personal information directly with the agent. Walmart has partnered with Meta’s Muse and offers integrations with ChatGPT and Gemini.
