US sells FTX-linked Anthropic stake for $627 million, proceeds go to FTX creditors

The US government sold its stake in AI startup Anthropic for $627 million in October 2025. The shares were originally purchased in 2022 by former FTX executives Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh for $50 million each. Following FTX's collapse and their guilty pleas, a court ordered the shares forfeited to the government as proceeds of crime. The proceeds from the sale were directed to the FTX bankruptcy estate to repay creditors, with the Justice Department confirming $638 million was sent to the estate in late 2025.
