Brazil's Central Bank Closes Crypto License Application Deadline for 68 Institutions
Brazil's Central Bank closed the deadline for existing crypto firms to apply for a Virtual Asset Service Provider license on Friday, October 30. A tracker by Brazilian financial firm Cainvest identified 68 institutions in the race, including major banks like Itaú Unibanco and Bradesco, stock exchange B3, and global exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase and OKX. Brazil ranked first in Chainalysis' 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index with $252.5 billion in crypto activity between July 2025 and June 2026.
As the world's top crypto adopter, Brazil's regulatory move establishes clear boundaries between licensed and unlicensed virtual asset service providers, potentially cutting off unauthorized firms from the traditional banking system.
