Andreessen Horowitz is renaming its crypto fund to "a16z Frontier" and expanding its mandate to cover AI, autonomous machines, and biology, while retaining crypto investments. Chris Dixon leads the new fund alongside Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Eddy Lazzarin, and Guy Wuollet. The fund's most recent size on record was $2.2 billion in May. Dixon argues that blockchains are now infrastructure used by Wall Street and fintech firms, not standalone crypto products, and crypto's role in the new mandate includes enabling AI agents to pay each other.
