OpenAI Engineer Arrested for Planting Audio Recorder in San Francisco Office

The FBI arrested OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan on Oct. 9, charging him with using a device to intercept oral communications after he allegedly planted a hidden, encrypted audio recorder in an executive conference room at OpenAI's San Francisco offices around Sept. 28. OpenAI stated its AI models helped identify the device and the employee, noting Alfozan previously used an internal tool to gather building and meeting details, and a chatbot account tied to his spouse allegedly inquired about building and hiding the recorder between Sept. 24 and 30.
