OpenAI Employee Arrested for Allegedly Planting Sophisticated Recording Device in Executive Meeting Room
Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi national, was arrested on charges of using a device to intercept oral communications after OpenAI discovered a sophisticated, encrypted recording device plugged into a TV's USB port in an executive conference room. OpenAI stated it used its AI models to trace the device to Alfozan, who was allegedly seen near the room and looking behind the TV on multiple dates prior to the device's installation around September 28th. Alfozan was fired, and the incident was referred to the FBI; investigators also found another recording device and his personal items in a bag he left in the office. OpenAI noted that it has no indications of the individual accessing model weights, source code, or customer data.
