YouTuber Arrested in Connection with Indian Finance Influencer's Suicide

27-year-old finance influencer V Harish was found dead near Chennai on Tuesday morning; his father, J Vinayagam, alleged his suicide resulted from online harassment by YouTuber and Zemuria CEO Jason Samuel. Samuel was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of attempting to extort money and posting defamatory videos against Harish. Harish amassed over 1.3 million Instagram followers over five years, simplifying finance for India's rapidly growing retail investor base, which saw unique investors at the National Stock Exchange exceed 130 million, up from under 30 million in 2019. Meta disabled his Instagram account in September after complaints that he was not registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to offer investment advice.
