March Job Hires Rise to 5.6 Million While Job Openings Remain at 6.9 Million

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in March 2026, the number of job openings was unchanged at 6.9 million, with a job openings rate of 4.1 percent. Hires increased to 5.6 million, raising the hiring rate to 3.5 percent. Total separations remained little changed at 5.4 million, comprising 3.2 million quits and 1.9 million layoffs and discharges.
