MEXC Withdraws from France Amid Regulatory Push to Expand into Tokenized Assets
Crypto exchange MEXC announced on Oct. 28 that it will gradually cease services to French customers, automatically closing all open positions by Jan. 22, 2027, and stopping withdrawals on Mar. 5. The move follows earlier exits from the Netherlands (Sept. 29), Russia and Belarus (Oct. 20) as CEO Vugar Usi pushes a shift from memecoin speculation toward tokenized equities, commodities and prediction markets. France’s financial regulator, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), blacklisted MEXC in June 2024 for offering financial services without authorization, and the upcoming Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) will impose further licensing requirements on crypto service providers. French users will face restrictions in four batches starting Nov. 18, preventing new positions or deposits; remaining assets will be transferred to a regulated custodian after the withdrawal deadline. MEXC is offering referrals to EU‑regulated platforms, but users must open accounts and move holdings themselves.
