Anthropic seeks own data centers as cloud rivals tighten grip

Anthropic, the maker of Claude, is struggling to secure sufficient cloud capacity from major providers AWS, Google, and Microsoft, who now view the company as a competitor. The S-1 filing reveals Anthropic may spend over $750 billion on cloud contracts while simultaneously leasing its own data centers and working with third-party operators concerned about limited reliability. Despite $16.3 billion in revenue, the company reported an $80.7 billion net loss in the first half of 2026, with just two customers driving a fifth of sales.
