Google DeepMind and partners release ForTy 2020, a 10-meter global forest typology map

Google DeepMind, Google Research, World Resources Institute (WRI), and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) released Forest Typology (ForTy) 2020, a global map categorizing every 10-by-10-meter patch of land into six distinct forest and land-use types, including natural, planted, or farmed. This map, alongside an early time series tracking changes from 2017 to 2025, shows not just where forest was lost, but what replaced it, providing a key baseline for the EU's deforestation regulation (EUDR).
