El Salvador deploys 2,000 troops to Haiti to rescue four missing soldiers

El Salvador has sent over 2,000 soldiers to Haiti to retrieve four air force technicians who went missing nearly two weeks ago while travelling in an armoured vehicle. President Nayib Bukele confirmed the deployment and said the troops would also assist security efforts against gangs. The mission follows an ambush in Croix-des-Bouquets, where the technicians were working with a UN-backed anti-gang organisation. Haiti has handed over four bodies, but Bukele said they did not match the missing soldiers, noting one was a child and another wore a different country's uniform.
