Aave became a key conduit in the 29 Oct 2026 Binance hack. A hacker borrowed 3,271 ETH (~$7.4 M) and later 16,491 ETH (~$37.5 M) from Aave’s V3 pools on Ethereum after depositing $10 M and $50 M USDT as collateral. Once the theft was detected, Aave froze all V3 markets on the Ethereum mainnet, halting new deposits and borrowing. This freeze pushed Aave’s borrowing rate from 13.27 % to 5.45 % overnight and led to a pause of its V3 and V4 DAO‑operated markets. As of midnight UTC, Aave reported a 3.1 % APR for USDT supply and 11.5 % APR for USDC supply.
